Course purpose:   

To promote best practice in venepuncture/phlebotomy/cannulation techniques and procedures to obtain venous blood samples from individuals for investigations. To promote best practice in the insertion of intravenous cannula to facilitate access to the blood system for treatment or diagnostic purposes

Aims: 

The safe and competent collection of a venous blood sample with regard to the following generic standard criteria. The safe, competent and appropriate insertion of an intravenous cannula with regard to the following generic standard criteria

 

  • 1.0 Communication and working with the patient and/or representative
  • 2.0 Safety
  • 3.0 Infection Prevention
  • 4.0 Procedural competence
  • 5.0 Team working
  • 6.0 Theoretical knowledge

 

You will need a firm knowledge and understanding of this procedures based upon your employer’s protocols, guidelines and patient group directives, recognising their application in light of the learning outcomes identified below:
